COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS AND CHARGES

Education Committee

Program Education Snippets
Chairman: Worshipful James Robert Scott, Jr., P.M.
Charge: Provide Masonic education for the craft.
Goal: To have a better educated craft.
Strategy: Develop and present education snippets. Research words and phrases within Masonic ritual, catechisms, degree work, and history; and make a 2 to 3 minute presentation during Stated Communications.


Mentor Training
Chairman: Worshipful  Henry Garvey, Jr., P.M.
Committee Members: To be assigned and composed of 3 or 4 Past Masters to be coaches for mentors.
Charge: Provide mentor training and standardize the mentor program.
Goal: To have a cadre of at least six trained mentors by the July 1.
Strategy: Create a training syllabus from the Mentor's Manual from which to conduct training programs.
Strategy: Form a committee to develop a mentor's training program and instruct mentors.
The committee should be 3 or 4 Past Masters
Strategy: Obtain and maintain an inventory of instruction booklets

Strategy: Implement a Mentor's Training Program to provide the tools for mentors to use in mentoring candidates through their progress in the degrees of Freemasonry
Strategy: The WM will assign a mentor to each candidate immediately after he is voted on to received the Degrees in Freemasonry
Strategy: Assigned mentors (separate from catechism coaches) will instruct candidates throughout the progress through the degrees in Freemasonry and provide a continuing source of Masonic knowledge to assigned candidates as they progress in their Masonic career.


Masonic Education at Ritual Schools
Chairman: Brother Daniel Todd Andrews
Charge: Provide Methodical Digest Education
Goal: Expand the knowledge of the rules, resolutions, and edicts of the Grand Lodge of Virginia
Strategy: Research a section of the Methodical Digest or Constitutions of Masonry and make a 10-minute presentation each Thursday evening.
The idea is not to read the documents, rather study a provision and explain it in your own words.


Coaches Committee
Chairman: Worshipful  Russell Evert Thompson, P.M.
Charge: To standardize the way catechisms are taught by assigned coaches.
Strategy: Meet with coaches on a regular basis to train them and to verify that they are correctly teaching the catechisms to their candidates.

 

Program Committee

Chairman: Worshipful  William Larry Alexander, P.M.
Charge: To coordinate with program chairmen for Stated Communications programs.
Goal: To have programs that attracts the craft to Stated Communications and are of interest to both young and old brethren.
Strategy: Assist the Worshipful  Master in creating a schedule of programs for the Masonic Year
Strategy: Assist the Worshipful  Master in assigning a chairman for each program.
Strategy: Oversee program planning by program chairman and assist them in their preparations.
Strategy: Verify that speakers have transportation to the lodge.
Strategy: Assist program chairman in development of a newsletter article to promote the program.

 

Trestle Board Committee

Chairman: Brother Robert Thomas Boland
Charge: Publish and distribute monthly newsletter that is interesting and informative and timely delivered.
Goal: Publish 12 Trestle Boards and delivered to the craft at least 2 weeks for Stated Communications.
Strategy: Set publishing schedule
Strategy: Set publishing budget.
Strategy: Set design and graphics
Strategy: Obtain content from Master, Wardens, and Committee chairs.
Strategy: Maintain and events calendar

 

Web Site Committee

Chairman: Brother Vernon Andrew Roessler
Charge: Design, launch, and maintain new Lodge website.
Goal: Launch web site by end of February 2008.
Strategy: Set publishing schedule
Strategy: Set budget for development
Strategy: Set budget for maintenance
Strategy: Determine initial content and design by end of December.
Strategy: Obtain content (graphics and text)
Strategy: Dynamically update website to meet changing situation and needs of the Lodge.

 

Membership Committee (Grow the Craft)

Chairman: Brother Jose Rubio
Charge: Develop and implement a program to increase membership.
Goal: Have 6 candidates for one-day conferral in August 2008
Goal: Raise 10 new Master Masons in 2008
Strategy: Verify how many we raised in 2006 and 2007
Strategy: Verify how many we lost in 2006 and 2007
Strategy: Develop a recruiting program and guidelines for brethren to use in soliciting and screening potential new members.
Goal: Sponsor at least 3 "Bring-A-Friend" programs during 2008.
Strategy: Create new activities in which brothers can become involved.
Strategy: Get more new brothers involved in Lodge activities
Goal: Actively engage newly raised Brethren in Lodge activities as soon as they become Master Masons.

 

Temple and Grounds Committee

Chairman: Brother Raymond Lee Lambert
Committee Members: Brother James Robert Scott, Sr.
Charge: Care and maintenance of the temple and grounds
Strategy: Develop a preventive maintenance program for heating and air-conditioning systems.
Strategy: Maintain a stock inventory for expendable items, such as light bulbs, air filters, and toilet paper.
Strategy: Maintain grounds. Arrange to have the grass mowed and bushes trimmed, trashes collected, and snow removed. Solicit assistance from members and appendant bodies (Eastern Star, Demolay, and Jobs Daughters).
Strategy: Arrange for building repairs, such as broken windows and leaks in roof.

 

Adopt a Highway Committee

Chairman: Worshipful  James Robert Scott, Jr., P.M.
Charge: Schedule and coordinate highway cleanup crews for at least three cleanups for 2008.
Goal: Accomplish 4 highway cleanups for 2008
Strategy: Set clean up schedule
Strategy: Solicit participation from the craft.

Masonic Home of Virginia Committee

Co-Chairman: Brother Glen Keith and Brother Bradley Rees
Charge: Represent the Lodge on matters in support of MHOVA
Goal: Develop an adopt-a-resident program.
Strategy: Meet with District MHOVA Ambassador to determine District and Grand Lodge activities and goals
Strategy: Obtain a roster of residents and initial a resident selection process.
Strategy: Organize a visit to the Masonic Home.

 

Blood Program Committee

 

Chairman: Worshipful  William Larry Alexander, P.M.
Charge: Promote the blood program of the Grand Lodge of Virginia.
Strategy: Determine Grand Lodge and District goals
Strategy: Obtain and distribute literature supporting the program.
Strategy: Arrange for a blood mobile to visit the lodge and arrange an event day for blood donations that includes the craft, IOES, Demolay, and Jobs Daughters; plus other lodges in the District.
